I did a thing a couple of weekends ago. I got to check out Dope live and rocking it out at Kelsey Theater in West Palm.
First things first, you go after what you want. It’s been said, it’s been proven. Now let me tell you why. When I initially found out that (hed) P.E. and Dope were going to be playing together locally I was stoked. I couldn’t wait to get these two groups in front of my lens. So I purchased my ticket immediately and reached out to the venue for them to put me in contact with the right people so that I could make sure it would be cool for me to bring my lens with me. I’m not sure what came of that but I was told if I didn’t hear back from them it would be a no-go. I persisted though and continued to reach out to a few more people. I got a response that it should’t be a problem. That’s all I needed. I was set and it was on.
It was a fantastic show and not only did I check out two great bands, I had a blast. I really dig Kelsey Theater. Such a great venue and the music was rocking. It was well worth the almost two hour trip each way for this Queen. If you’ve been keeping up with my blog I posted a quick little collection of my (hed) P.E. which I absolutely dug. But let me get to the goods on Dope. Shooting them wasn’t the easiest. Their lighting was intense, sometimes going from practically blacked out, to harsh strobes and then lovely color. And being that I shoot manual lets just say I had to stay on my toes. Still, I am happy with what resulted.
I chose to keep it raw and dirty on this set. I can’t really explain it except to say that was my vibe that night. While most people want to give you clean and pretty images of bands, I want you to feel like you were there, in the crowd, up close and personal. So I kept a lot of the colors and even left in the grit on the black and whites. I wanted to let you feel what I was feeling and I hope that comes through in the images. So I picked a top 20 of my favorites which I’m going to let you know are not the best shots of the night, but they are MY favorites. Please feel free to check out the full set on my FACEBOOK page and you can choose some for yourselves.
