It’s not always about that rock for me… I am diverse.

I mentioned in my last post how I was working on finishing up a particular set. Well, it is that time where the photos are done and now it’s time for the sharing to commence.

My last gig of the year was at the Hard Rock Event Center on assignment for I’m Music Magazine. I got to take a massive stroll down memory lane and not only check out one of my favorite rappers, he was accompanied by two other acts that I used to enjoy as well. Snoop Dogg, The Luniz and Afroman hit up South Florida on the Puff Puff Pass Tour and let me tell you what a great time I had. I didn’t find out until a few days prior that I was approved to be in the photo pit at this show but I was more than happy to oblige.

Yes, I primarily shoot rock bands and there is definitely a difference in stage activity but this was a great experience nonetheless. Granted, a hip hop/ rap show is primarily the artist holding the mic and walking around while doing their thing. Yes that limits the overall look of images taken however that does not mean you cannot capture great moments.

I put together a little collection for you guys showcasing a few of my favorite from each group and I’m looking forward to hearing what you think. As always there are a few more on my page which you are more than welcomed to check out and of course, I look forward to hearing what you think.

I can’t even begin to get in to how thankful I have been lately with the opportunities I have had behind the lens. Case in point, another amazing night for my Beast and I. The band, The Main Squeeze.

I first saw The Main Squeeze a little over a year ago at Wynwood Yard and instantly fell in love with their vibe. I was immediately a fan. So was my lens. I snapped a few photos and as it turns out, they enjoyed the images I captured. Well, the year passed and come to find out they were returning to South Florida and performing at one of my favorite venues, Revolution Live. You know I had to be there again and this time, as not only their fan, but their photographer. It was both and honor and a pleasure. The night was amazing throughout. The Main Squeeze was positively on fire.

It was difficult for me, in a sense. Listening to them makes you just want to dance and throw in working all angles of that venue capturing them from all sides made for quite the workout for that evening. I am not complaining though. Not only did I get my dance on but I absolutely love how the images turned out. So much so that I could only narrow down the collection I’m sharing with you here to 20 images and with even a much larger set on my Facebook page.

Here they are, my top 20 and I’m hoping you get the idea of just how much I dig their vibe. They really are a great group of guys with a killer sound and I highly recommend you check them out if they are ever in your area. In the meanwhile, they have tons of tracks available online on Spotify with links to more media on their website. Feel free to give them a visit and you know I’m welcoming your feedback.

With love,

Ladies and gentleman and all in between. I am absolutely ecstatic to be writing to you today. I’m not going to beat around the bush here. I was both privileged and blessed to not simply attend a live and intimate performance of one of my all time favorite Hip Hop artists, I was given the opportunity to capture it with my lens. Yes yes y’all, ya don’t stop, KRS-ONE, rock on! and I was there.

Yes, you can say I was and still am excited so excuse the slight fan-girling taking place right now. This is one of the greatest MC”s in the game still to this day and if you don’t know who he is, you better get to school. Old school that is. KRS-ONE, Knowledge Reigns Supreme. Lyrically this man is phenomenal. He speaks truth and knowledge and is the man behind the Boom Bap. Yes, I am a fan. I’ve been a fan since he was in BDP. Yes, I’n dating myself on that one but who cares, it’s the Teacha, I’m entitled.

But I will try and contain myself and talk about this set. I heard that he was going to be performing at Respectable Street this past Sunday promoting his new album, The World is Mind. Of course I had to jump on it. I was planning on going regardless but the ideal scenario was being granted permission to bring the Beast with me and thanks to the guys at Heroes Live Entertainment, I was given just that (side note: Heroes Live is amazing. Everything about them was on point and I look forward to working with them again in the near future. You definitely want to hit them up.). So here I was at a sold out show front, center and everywhere in-between not just bobbin’ my head to this legend, I was capturing his energy and his passion live and in full swing.

Now, on to my photos. No flash, just straight stage and atmospheric lighting. Given a reflective choice of clothing, it did make for a challenging set at time though I am insanely pleased with the results. It was difficult for me to narrow down my favorites for you and I only managed on trimming it down to a top 20 for this entry. I did post the full set on my FACEBOOK PAGE because I’m generous like that. Though enough delay, let’s get to the goods. Let me know what you think.

As always much love,

The Queen

“Photography for me is not looking, it’s feeling. If you can’t feel what you’re looking at, then you’re never going to get others to feel anything when they look at your pictures.”
— Don McCullin

I first got to see them perform live on the eve of my birthday when they performed with another personal favorite band of mine, Urban Rebel, a few years ago. Art Official was, and still is an amazing band that I make a point to go see and listen to when I can. I’ve seen them quite a few times however have never had them in front of my lens. That is until now. It was a great night to shoot them too. A breezy and lovely night, perfect for enjoying a night of live music at Wynwood Yard.

Let me tell you, they rocked the house as usual. Everyone was dancing and the vibe was without a doubt on point. As for my images, my intention was not just to capture the vibe on stage, but my own feel so that you can see through my eyes. After all, its what the name “Through The Eyes of a Queen” is all about. But you all already knew that right? Right? Yeah, I know you did.

I digress, let’s get to the photos shall we? Beast and I were on the level this night. He did an amazing job grabbing every shot I was seeing and I have to say that I’m very happy with the way they turned out. It took me a little while to get to editing them but the excitement in sharing them with you today is real. I picked a few favorites as usual and uploaded the rest of them to Facebook. I’m looking forward to your feedback.

Until next time,

Thank you

You could say I’ve been burning the candle at both ends this week. While work has been insane with preparing to move offices, upgrading computers and still keeping up with the flood of work that is my day to day, I’ve also been burning the midnight oil working on my photos from this last weekend at Fishoutawata at Tobacco Road here in downtown Miami.

While my main reason for going was to support my friends Urban Rebel, I was excited to finally get to hear some of the bands that were on the venue’s lineup. It turned out to be not only a great music festival, it was fun and full of amazing talent. I even loved that they had a Charlie Chaplin impersonator. As for my photos, not only did I enjoy taking them, they were a pleasure to edit as well. Granted, I’m still operating with a T4i Rebel so the shots are noisy despite my editing,l. I think they add to the photos in this particular instance.

If I had to pick favorites, the next couple of pictures would be it. Of course my camera still loves Urban Rebel as evidenced by these shots, though she fancied the vocalist of The Cornerstoners as well. I am also sharing Charlie because he’s Charlie after all and there’s a couple of a group named Pages and The Out of hand. I also enjoyed their set. I will say this and it is a random comment, however I left this show wanting dreads.
