While I do have my clients that I work for, my socials are the ones that are lacking my attention. Still the same, there are posts that just beg to be shared at some point or another, and for me, today is the day to show you one of my favorite things to shoot; fire. Well, not just fire, but beauty and fire. I love my fire spinners. I love working with them and hold a passion for their craft with the utmost importance. If you asked me what is my favorite genre to capture, I would say that it is the genre of performance. Now I know that is not really considered to be technically a genre/style of photography. After all, it’s not landscape, street, urban, portraits, weddings, etc. It’s not a usual and typical answer when asked what you like to shoot, but for me it is.

You see, whether it be a musician on stage or a fire spinner wielding their poi of choice, I really do love capturing the moments where individuals are in the element of their passion. Passion is the fuel. Passion is a fire that drives us. So with that, I’ll make this quick. I have my favorite shots of this one particular shoot with one of my favorite spinners. It’s my third time going out to capture Hellzapoppin and every time I see them perform they always have something to surprise me. It was an amazing performance with feats even I hadn’t seen. It was particularly a foggy performance and there was the occasional  difficulty grabbing a specific shot I wanted from time to time but all in all, I had a blast that night. I took Beast out with his usual attire, the 24-700 mm zoom and let me tell you how grateful I was that I chose that route. My work area was about the size of a folding chair along the stage and I didn’t want to get in the audience’s way (No, I’m not that “get in everyone’s view kind of photographer. After all, you’re paying to watch the show, not the back of my head and my lens.). That lens was perfect as it let me get close yet still get a great angle for these photos. 

I didn’t focus so much on the actual feats being performed as I’m sure there are plenty of those around. After all, that’s not my style. I capture moments, emotion, that FEEL. That being said there was quite a few shots to say the least. I’ve been limiting my shares to about 40 images at m most but I just couldn’t help myself this time around. So if you check out my Facebook, you have almost the full set there. I’m saving a few for Instagram and you’ll just have to follow me there for those goods. Yes, I’m making you work for it.

I definitely am excited to be posting this entry today. Not only did I meet my self-imposed deadline despite an insane amount of 9-5 work, this set is one that I’m particularly fond of. So much so that this one time I am absolutely encouraging you to check out the full album on my Facebook Page. Well, after you read this quick little blurb of mine. So let’s get to this; yes?

For starters, I love me some Hellzapoppin. They are an amazing performance troupe that originated in Dallas Texas. Now they are touring the world and I was not missing them performing at one of my all-time favorite venues to photograph, The Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale. The lighting alone there excites me and when you add to it an amazing show full of insanely talented individuals performing all sorts of unique feats that leave one amazed to say the least. 

I’ve seen them before about a year ago at Kelsey Theater and I initially thought the performance would consist of basically the same thing. Well, I was wrong. I mean how many times can one say that they were witness to things such as sword and drill swallowing, hanging cowbells and bowling balls from hooks placed within an eye socket, the list goes on. This night was amazing. Being close to the action made it that much more incredible. But I’m going to let my top 20 show you just a glimpse of what I was witness to. I had the extreme pleasure to be invited out to photograph another amazing  gallery event brought together by Compositum Musicae Novae. It was a night of music, art, dance and theater.  By far my favorite event of theirs that I’ve been to. Not only was it held at the beautiful Pinecrest Gardens, it was from start to finish a wonderful and beautiful performance by all participants. From the jazz trio, the harps, the play and the dance as well as the displayed art, I came away cultured and soothed. As for the photos, I will let them speak for themselves. 

It was difficult for me to trim this set down to manageable album on Facebook and even more difficult to select my favorites from this post. Between the lighting, the expressionisms and all around vibe of the night, I was quite fond of several photos. Nonetheless, I had to save the bulk of them for CMN though I am taking a few to share because one should always share things that make them feel good. This set does just that. 

Of course none of this evening would have been possible for me without the Compositum and so I will tell you to visit their website to see what they are all about and what they have planned gallery wise next. Now while I’m still finishing up on this thing I did, I wanted to take a moment to check in and catch up with you all. That means sharing some photos I captured that night just before the thing officially began. It was a little pre-show/ opening act little ditty by two rather cool bands, Butch and the Fat Doobs and Shadow Reborn. Good times, good times. While I didn’t take too many photos of the bands, I am a live music photographer and I had to snap a few here and there. I’m sharing with you now the faves from both groups in one post simply for the sake of efficiency. After all, I have miles to go on my backlog and I really want to bring to you that “thing” sooner rather than later. I am on a time crunch and wanting to get it all squared away before next weeks bookings. Time management is important after all. 

I digress though. The images I’m sharing with you were obviously all shot from one spot. Once again I wasn’t there to capture live music and I also did not want to obstruct the views of the audience. I didn’t really think they were going to turn out as well as they did but this night was full of surprises for me. It was an amazing time though you’ll have to catch the next entry for what definitely caught my eye.  Now, without any further delay, here are my photo picks for this entry.
