With live music only recently beginning to come back, I had been taking the opportunity to take care of some organization as well as taking on a few personal projects. It’s been over a year now and in my flow, I have come to realize that I never did post this particular set. The Main Squeeze performing live and direct at Revolution Live just a month shy of the Corona Virus shutdown. In fact, they were the Beast and I’s  Valentine’s Day date.

I really love the energy these guys bring. Thankfully I get so lost behind the lens that I’m able to focus on capturing the performance without dancing too much until after the work is done. Then, of course, it is on to dancing and with the Squeeze, it is always a party. It has been some crazy times and with all that has gone on in the last year or so, and I am thankful that it is returning. 

I will say it again and again, never in my life would I have been able to guess or imagine all the firsts that I would encounter such as I have in such a short period of time but I adapted and so did the artists. I loved how they would stream performances or collaborate with each other via video conferencing. I was thankful to still have music despite the limitations that it had been placed under. Still, I missed this. Being in the crowd, seeing the fans dance, sing, enjoying life. There is no comparison to attending live music. None whatsoever.

I had an absolute blast on this night and it all began with my peeps, The Main Squeeze. Now, I initially was not going to be allowed to shoot from the pit as the tour had strict guidelines for photogs this evening, however Smiley is the man and got me the go ahead. After all, I love working with these guys. Not only are they so much fun to work with, they are fabulous on stage. Each time I catch one of their shows, they blow my mind that much more. 

Yes, I always pack my long lens as a just in case precaution and on this night I was thankful that I do. I didn’t need it for this set though. I was armed with my 24-70mm sitting pretty and working hard right along with The Beast while The Main Squeeze was blowing minds from the jump. It’s difficult at times to keep my two feet on the ground when all I want to do is groove and dance but hey, I love what I do and once I open up for that first shutter click, it’s autopilot for me.

House rules for the night meant that once my three song time limit was up, I had to step outside until the next band and so I went out to swap lenses and chat up some other photogs and concert goers. They were raving about the Squeeze and yes, the anticipation was building for the rest of the night’s lineup. You’ll have some more images from this evening in my next couple of posts. I first saw The Main Squeeze a little over a year ago at Wynwood Yard and instantly fell in love with their vibe. I was immediately a fan. So was my lens. I snapped a few photos and as it turns out, they enjoyed the images I captured. Well, the year passed and come to find out they were returning to South Florida and performing at one of my favorite venues, Revolution Live. You know I had to be there again and this time, as not only their fan, but their photographer. It was both and honor and a pleasure. The night was amazing throughout. The Main Squeeze was positively on fire. 

It was difficult for me, in a sense. Listening to them makes you just want to dance and throw in working all angles of that venue capturing them from all sides made for quite the workout for that evening. I am not complaining though. Not only did I get my dance on but I absolutely love how the images turned out. So much so that I could only narrow down the collection I’m sharing with you here to 20 images and with even a much larger set on my Facebook page. 

Here they are, my top 20 and I’m hoping you get the idea of just how much I dig their vibe. They really are a great group of guys with a killer sound and I highly recommend you check them out if they are ever in your area. I didn’t initially plan to go out last weekend, but my younger brother had mentioned to me that there was a funk band from Cali coming to play at Wynwood Yard that I really should check out. It was an automatic, “hell yeah, I’m down”. Who turns a good funk band? So off we went to the yard and I found myself excited. I wasn’t sure how much shooting I was going to be able to do since I knew for a fact I would be dancing but, I did shoot. I danced a bit, too. Okay, that’s a lie. I danced a lot. Everyone was dancing and the vibe was amazing throughout the entire yard.

They were phenomenal.Polished and perfect. The entire band was on point with not one weak link to be found. From the vocals to the insane guitar solo and incredible work on keyboard and bass, That Main Squeeze had it on lock. Seriously. It is few and far between that I find myself enjoying a live show that much.

The part I found insane about it all was that despite the fact they are presently touring nationwide just having performed at Red Rocks, the show at the Yard was free. I would have easily paid on any given day to go see them live. You can’t even begin to imagine how much better they are live than on recording. Best part about it all was that despite playing all originals the entire night, they chose Redbone from Childish Gambino. That’s my jam.  I just have to say Wow. But this isn’t about my love of funk. This is about the photos, right?
