Changing Gears

“I am still learning.”
– Michelangelo

There you have it. I am and will continue on learning. It keeps me growing. It’s what prompts this post today. You see, I am self-taught with this whole photography thing. I am always working on honing my craft and will maintain doing so. That being said, while I always look to capture a shot and get it right in camera, sometimes that just doesn’t work out so well. Especially when you are shooting live music. It’s dark, there’s all sorts of crazy lighting at times and well, obviously the musicians don’t just stand there. It’s what makes it exciting for me. Still, images get captured and right or wrong, it comes down to post work. That’s another area that I’m always striving to learn new things in.

So here I am, reworking a set from last year’s Gears show at Cheers in Ft. Lauderdale. While this set is missing their newest member, I just had to work on this set again. These boys are on tour again and I’ve seen some great work from other photogs. What can you say, I was inspired to see what I can do with what I got. I mean, these guys are phenomenal and I adore their passion, dedication and energy on stage. I love shooting them. They’ve come a long way too and I’m hoping that I can get them in front of my lens again soon. For now, I’m taking some of the better and not so great shots and giving my new skills in post some room to stretch their wings. Of course I had my far too dark shots and then the dreaded blue, red and green light issue. Still, I burned the midnight oil tweaking here and there. I played around with shadows, sliders, toned down haze, etc., etc., and here they are. Let me know what you think…

With love,
The Queen
