Instrumental to the sound

Drums, guitars, cymbals, saxes and yes, even vocal chords. All are instruments as they are instrumental.

I’ve been meaning to throw a set like this together for quite some time now. A set focusing not on the individuals performing on stage, rather on the instruments they use. Guitars and their strings, drums with their cymbals, the gleam of a wind instrument, even the grip of a vocalist around the mic. I know you’ve seen these type of shots appearing in my albums in previous posts. The kind of shot where you will notice my eye is trained on the instrument.

You see, one thing I verily enjoy capturing when shooting live music are the instruments. I have my favorites. My affinity is for a saxophone and a bass guitar, however they all are beautiful to me. Their structure more often than not just as interesting as the sound that emotes from them. Needless to say throughout the performances they catch my eye and then it becomes second nature.

So here are a few of my favorite captures spanning from my very first time shooting live to date. I placed them in chronological order so that you may see the progression or rather evolvement of my style. I noticed the changes in it as I was getting my selection together and I found it interesting to see how they varied as time went on. The way I would apply what I learned from a previous event or just something I was trying out to the capture.

I must say it was hard to narrow it down. I initially selected 40 and posted them to my Facebook page. I almost shared them all here to be honest. There’s something about each of the shots that are special to me. I did trim the set down for the sake of this post although please feel free to browse through on my page.
