It has been a very busy time for me lately and I have not one complaint in the world. What’s even better is that with each time out behind the lens, I am learning something new. I believe one should never stop working not their craft.
That being said, my newest of lessons is definitely in the form of black light photography. It has been something that I’ve had in mind to do for a while now and you can imagine my excitement when The Von approached me to shoot them in blacklight. I couldn’t wait for the date to come. I won’t lie, I was a bit anxious. After all, I had never shot in black light before and I knew it would come with its challenges. Still, I’m not one to back down from a challenge and so off I went in to Machine Studios in to the dark with nothing but the black light.
The most obvious challenge for me was wanting to shoot at the lowest ISO possible to prevent as much noise as possible. Of course that meant having the subjects sit ridiculously still. That proved to be a bit of a task but I had a blast. All in all, I am very happy with the way they turned out. What’s more important is they loved them as well. A happy client is a good client and I aim to please.
All in all, this was not just an amazing experience for me, it was lessons that I value. I take a lot of pride in what I do and having the opportunity to learn and work on my craft is something I certainly appreciate. Now I can say I have taken a mark off my bucket list and I look forward to my next blacklight session and the creativity that will come from it.
Now, come see the rest of the shots on my Facebook page and while you’re at it, take a look at the Von. They’re getting ready for some new things and you won’t want to miss it.
